General David Petraeus (US Army, Ret.) is one of the most respected battlefield commanders, strategists, and geopolitical thinkers of our time. He served 37 years in the military, culminating in six commands as a general officer—five in combat—including the Surge in Iraq, U.S. Central Command, and Coalition Forces in Afghanistan. He subsequently served as CIA Director, confirmed 94–0 by the Senate, during a period of significant achievements in the global war on terror.

Today, he is a Partner at KKR and Chairman of the KKR Global Institute, which he founded in 2013. He also serves on corporate boards, is the Kissinger Fellow at Yale, a venture capitalist in over 30 startups, and co-author of the New York Times bestseller Conflict: The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Gaza with Andrew Roberts.

A distinguished West Point graduate, Petraeus earned a Ph.D. from Princeton and has held academic roles at five universities. He’s the only person in U.S. Army history to be the top graduate of both Ranger School and the Command and General Staff College. He serves on numerous advisory boards, including the Wilson Center, CFR, RUSI, and the Aspen Strategy Group.

His honors include four Defense Distinguished Service Medals, the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Service Award, the Bronze Star for Valor, and international decorations from 14 countries. He has been recognized by Time, Foreign Policy, Prospect, and US News, and was Princeton’s Madison Medalist.
