Biographical Profiles of Current MPP Graduate Students
Aidan is a U.K. diplomat. Most recently, he served as the U.K.’s Conflict and Humanitarian Representative in Goma, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, working on peacekeeping, internal displacement and aid delivery issues. Prior to that, Aidan worked in London as the West Africa policy lead at the former Department for International Development and Private Secretary to the Minister for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation. Aidan started his career as an inner city mathematics teacher, via the Teach First programme. In his free time, Aidan is a keen electronic music producer and loves running.
Klaas is a Belgian career diplomat, who served as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Mexico City. Klaas considers himself a generalist, and has worked on a multitude of issues, from foreign policy negotiations, political and economic diplomacy, and human rights, to the joint fight against organized crime, and hostage release. Previously, Klaas was posted in Washington as a Counselor for Political Affairs, tracking U.S. domestic politics, and serving as Belgium's U.S. Congressional liaison. As a Counselor for International Development, he worked with the World Bank and the IMF. Prior to joining Belgium's Foreign Service, he was an international civil servant in the United Nations Human Rights Office, working with the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. As a Research Fellow at the Leuven Centre for Political Research, he focused on social movements and collective action. He earned a master's degree in modern history (magna cum laude), and holds bachelor’s degrees in history and in laws. He was Chairperson of the National Union of Students in Flanders, and served in different positions for a centrist democratic party at the local and national level in his native Belgium. Klaas enjoys travelling with his wife Katherine and their four-legged friend Winston, tracks politics and binge-watches shows and movies for fun, and took up boxing in Mexico. After Princeton, he plans to return to public service, and see more of the world.
Clare was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, and adopted by a U.S. family, growing up in Southern California. Clare completed simultaneous degrees at UC Berkeley in Development Studies and Society and Environment. She has worked in Ghana, Guatemala, and Mexico on various topics, including microfinance, youth development, criminal justice reform, and a global project exploring the intersection of market systems development and private sector engagement. Clare is interested in exploring development aid effectiveness in a rapidly modernizing digital global space.
Caroline has served as an active-duty Coast Guard Officer for eight years. Most recently, she served as the Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Cutter EMLEN TUNNELL, based out of Manama, Bahrain. She has also served as the Commanding Officer of CGC NARWHAL homeported in Corona Del Mar, California. When she's not working, she enjoys travelling and spending time outdoors. Upon completion of the MPP program, she will be stationed in Washington, D.C.
Rehela is from the Kurdish region in Iraq, and studied geotechnical engineering at Koya University. Since 2014, she's been involved in development work with INGOs and most recently served as the Mercy Corps Country Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Manager for Iraq. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her two kids – cooking, drawing, and exploring nature together.
