Political scientist Layna Mosley joins Brett Ashley Leeds of Rice University to serve as co-editor-in-chief of International Organization (IO), a leading peer-reviewed journal covering the field of international affairs. They will begin their five-year term on July 1, 2022.

Mosley is professor of politics and international affairs at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. Her research explores the connections between domestic politics and the global economy as well as international relations more generally. She teaches courses at Princeton on the politics of the global economy, global political risk analysis, and qualitative research methods.

“I’m honored to be part of the new editorial team at International Organization, a journal that’s published so much important research in international politics,” Mosley said. “I look forward to evaluating and improving scholarship that grapples with key global challenges, including conflict, trade, foreign aid and development, human rights, and climate change, among many others.”

One of Mosley’s recent studies, published in IO, is among the first to show and explain a new trend: Developing countries tend to borrow in domestic currencies (rather than in foreign currencies) when issuing sovereign bonds. Governments with left-leaning ideologies are especially likely to choose this strategy.

Mosley also is a co-organizer of the Global Research in International Political Economy webinar series, a member of the executive committee of the Niehaus Center for Globalization & Governance, and an executive board member of the Women Also Know Stuff initiative.

Joining Mosley and Leeds to spearhead the journal are associate editors B. Peter Rosendorff of New York University, who is currently a visiting research scholar at SPIA’s Niehaus Center for Globalization & Governance, and Ayşe Zarakol of the University of Cambridge.

Work published in IO features such subjects as foreign policies, international relations, international and comparative political economy, security policies, environmental disputes and resolutions, European integration, alliance patterns and war, bargaining and conflict resolution, economic development and adjustment, and international capital movements.

The journal annually presents the Robert O. Keohane award — Keohane is professor of public and international affairs, emeritus, at SPIA — that acknowledges his years of service to the journal and support of junior scholars.
